This the very first day as a field officer. oh... first of all let me introduce my self.
I am Lakshan Nandasena , i am working as statistical officer for Department of census and statistics ( National Statistics Office), Sri Lanka.
My main duty is to collect reliable data in Akurana DS division (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akurana) . As responsible government servant, I have to collect Agricultural data, Labor force data, house and population data etc.
I am the successor of Ms.Udeni Rajapakse, she handled the data collecting process in effective and accurate manner. I am lucky enough to get her knowledge about the Akurana DS division.
Today we took a bus from Akurana to pangollamada which is multi ethnic village in Akurana. Majority is Muslims. the village surrounded by range of scenic mountains and paddy fields.
In the morning session we visited 27 houses for the purpose of sample frame update. Sample contains only Muslim houses , They put their fullest attention to help us. most of the houses are occupied but few were not because of they migrated to abroad. Even for few hours, it was a different experience about knowing a Muslim culture in a small village.
In the afternoon we visited few farmers, Mr. Jayasena in Maarahela village and Mr. Jayampathy in Malgamandeniya village.
They are experienced farmers, and they cultivated variety of crops including chillie, Vanila , Beans, Papaya etc.
They promised to submit the prices as we collect the producer price.
The amazing thing was i visited a Ambalama (1st Picture ) in konakagala junction. according to its architecture it is belongs to 18th century.
I really thank Ms. Udeni Rajapakse for guiding me and Kandy district Statistics office.
